Persian carpets are created by hand using a horizontal loom with knots that are tied from around warp threads. These handcrafted carpets are composed of wool, silk, cotton, or a combination of materials. They are intricate and might be finished in two weeks to two years.
Since natural dyes are used to create traditional Persian carpets, you should search for hues that seem to originate from the natural world, such as cochineal beetles for reds, indigo or blues, and pomegranate peel for golden yellow. Synthetic dyes can coat the surface, however, chemical colors often enter the fabric equally.
If there is a subtle unevenness in the carpets after you bend them to isolate particular threads, you will know you are dealing with natural hues.
